Today is Wednesday of Holy Week, the 17 April.

The Kyiv Chamber Choir sing Kyrie eleison. As you hear these voices making this beautiful plea for God’s mercy, ponder how much the world needs to hear the merciful, forgiving, compassionate word of God, and how much you may need to hear it, too.

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew.

The enigma of Judas, who ‘sold’ Jesus for sordid gain: What feelings arise in you as you listen to this reading? Anger? Disgust? Sadness?

What would you want to say to Judas if you knew what he was doing?  Jesus did know, yet he treated Judas gently.  He did not try to stop him.

As you listen again to the reading, notice how Jesus talks to Judas and how he looks at him.

How does Jesus look at you when you are unfaithful to him or betray his love?  What do you want to say to Jesus as you ponder these events?
