Today is Tuesday the of 14 April, in the Season of Easter.
Salt of the Sound sing, ‘Unveil my Eyes’. In this space, bring to mind people you are missing … their physical absence or loss … the place they have in your heart … and always in God’s heart with you …
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John.
Today’s reading from John’s Gospel tells of Mary Magdalene’s first encounter with the Risen Christ. Traumatized by the events of the past few days, Mary returns to the tomb of Jesus. She is tearful, confused and lost. She is also full of questions as she struggles to make sense of what is happening around her. What questions do you have about recent challenging events in your life, the life of your community, or of the world?
Jesus asks Mary why she is weeping and who she is looking for.
Can you place yourself in the story as Mary for a moment? Get a sense of her confusion… her loss…longing…Do you have this same sense in your life at the moment?... Loss?...Longing…?
Who or what are you are looking for?
Allow the Holy Spirit to bring your anxieties and longings up into the light.
Share them with Jesus now. When Jesus calls Mary by her name she recognises him.
Imagine Jesus calling your name.
How do you know its Jesus… How do you recognise him? By the tone of his voice? What does it sound like…?
How do you respond?
Stay with the scene in your mind’s eye as you listen again.
We are all walking in confusing times… Perhaps you cannot see hope for yourself today… perhaps you feel the same about your country or the world… Maybe you feel as Mary did before she recognised Jesus… but he is here with you now. In these final moments, bring all that is confused or broken and lift it to Jesus now… ask for his clarity and healing.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
