Today is Thursday the 16 April, in the Season of Easter.
One Hope Project sing, ‘My Soul Rests’. Amidst these uncertain times, it can be easy to get caught up in fear, worry and overwhelm. These are natural responses, and we can welcome and acknowledge them. At the same time, we are invited to remember that God is present within this situation, working for our good and the good of all the world. This God is inviting us to trust in and collaborate with that work. Use this mantra to still yourself and help you tune into this truth: Be still and know that I am God… Be still and know that I am…be still and know…be still…
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Luke.
In Luke’s Gospel the disciples begin to experience the Risen Christ in different places and in a variety of ways. They experience confusion, disbelief and astonishment as the truth of the resurrection begins to dawn on them. In our passage today the disciples tell how Jesus has revealed himself through the breaking of bread at Emmaus. As they tell the story to the disciples in Jerusalem so Jesus appears to them. Imagine yourself amongst this group of disciples: What do you experience as you encounter the Risen Christ?
Jesus encourages his disciples not to doubt him. What causes you to doubt Jesus? Perhaps you have experienced more doubt since the pandemic arrived. Are you finding it challenging to believe? Share this all with Jesus now, trusting that he will continue to love you as you question.
As you listen again focus on Jesus saying: ‘Peace be with you’…
Take some time now to let the Holy Spirit bring to mind a situation or place in the world that longs for peace. Pray for God’s peace to break through.
