During this month of January, Pope Leo invites us to pray that the Word
of God would be nourishment for our lives and a source of hope in our
communities, helping us to build a more fraternal and missionary
Church.
0:48
Jesus is the Word of the Father… not a Word confined to the pages of a
book, but a Word that is alive and active among us… As you listen to
the voice of Jesus in the Gospel of John, notice his way of speaking, the
tone of his voice, and the intention behind every word that he
speaks…
1:26
‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry,
and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But I said to you that
you have seen me and yet do not believe. Everything that the Father
gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes to me I will never
drive away; for I have come down from heaven, not to do my own
will, but the will of him who sent me.’
2:26
As we go through life, we learn to recognise God’s voice that
speaks to us with love… We keep on listening to that voice, and keep
trying to respond to what God is asking of us… As you look back over
your life, how have you recognised this voice…?
3:34
Jesus offers himself as nourishment for every human being… He does
not drive anyone away, but welcomes everyone into his presence… No
matter how you feel at this moment, spend some time resting in the
presence of Jesus…. and discovering the kind of food that he wants to
give you right now…
4:51
The food that Jesus provides is not a gift to be kept to ourselves, but a
gift to be shared with others… As you consider the people who are
closest to you, how could you share with them the nourishment you
have received from listening to God’s word...?
6:02
The impression that Jesus is silent can sometimes leave us feeling
downcast… In those moments of silence, Jesus is patiently listening to
us… waiting for us to respond… waiting for us to pour out our hearts
to him… Take a moment to let Jesus listen to you as you speak to him
about what he means to you at this moment of your life… and ask him
for whatever it is that you need….
8:34
We draw this time of reflection together in the words of the Pope’s
offering prayer. You might like to listen especially for a word or
phrase that you can make your own today, to carry forward with
you into the rest of your day.
8:57
"Good Father, I know you are with me. Here I am on this new day. Place
my heart once more with the Heart of your Son Jesus,
who gives himself for me and who comes to me in the Eucharist. May
your Holy Spirit make me his friend and apostle, available for his
mission of compassion.
I place in your hands my joys and hopes, my works and sufferings,
everything that I am and have, in communion with my brothers and
sisters of this Worldwide Prayer Network.
With Mary, I offer you my day for the mission of the Church and for the
prayer intentions of the Pope and my Bishop for this month. Amen”.
