Pray As You Grow Theme Music (Guitar version)

As we begin, reflect on God, who is with you here and now…

Take a moment to breathe, and think about God’s gaze of love upon you...

Ask God to guide you in this time of prayer…

In this scene Abram questions God’s plans and seeks reassurance. Stay with Abram and notice how God responds to him.

Genesis 15:1-6

After these things the Lord’s message came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram! I am your shield and the one who will reward you in great abundance.”

But Abram said, “O Sovereign Lord, what will you give me since I continue to be childless, and my heir is Eliezer of Damascus?” Abram added, “Since you have not given me a descendant, then look, one born in my house will be my heir!”

But look, the Lord’s message came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but instead a son who comes from your own body will be your heir.” The Lord took him outside and said, “Gaze into the sky and count the stars—if you are able to count them!” Then he said to him, “So will your descendants be.”

Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord credited it as righteousness to him.

Finding Quiet

Raphah

How does Abram look to you as he experiences God’s shield over him.

God does not offer simple answers but tells Abram to go outside and be attentive to the stars. Can you imagine looking up into the sky full of stars, what does it make you feel in response?

Are there times when you feel confused or overwhelmed, might you ask God for direction?

Now, thank God for this time with him… And keep talking with Him as you go about the rest of your day…

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
