Today is Tuesday the 15 October, the feast of St Teresa of Avila in the 28th week of Ordinary Time.

The community of Taizé sing Veni Creator Spiritus:  Come, Creator Spirit.

Today’s reading is from St Paul’s letter to the Romans.

Paul claims here that one way of understanding God is to look at all that God has made in creation. Can you bring to mind one or two things that your own experience of the created world tells you about our God?

Paul also recognises that not everybody who experiences creation is brought to know God better in this way. Why is this so, do you think?

Paul’s conclusion seems to be that people who don’t believe are either foolish, or wicked, or quite possibly both. Think of one or two people you know who don’t believe in God, or follow Christ. How would you describe them?

As the passage is read again, notice how Paul describes the gospel in his first few words here; and then hear the rest of the passage in that light.

Speak to God, in this last moment of prayer, of your own response to the gift of creation.
