Relationships

Building positive relationships is an important part of school and will stay important into adult life. Our relationship with family members, friends, teachers and chaplains can help shape us into the person we want to become.

Our relationship with God can also play a big part in this.

This Examen invites God to look at our relationships alongside us, to show us which ones build us up and if there are any we need to work on.

Step 1: Invite God to be present with you.

In the first step of the Examen we invite God to be present with us, so that we can see what he is trying to tell us through the things that are happening to us in our lives.

Step 2: Give thanks.

Think of one thing that has happened to you today that you are grateful for. Take a moment to say thank you for it now.

Step 3: We review our day.

Think of one person who has made you feel good today. Was it a friend, family member, teacher, or someone else? What did they do? Why did it give you such a good feeling?

Think of one person you might not have treated in the best way that you could have. What happened? What could you have done instead?

Step 4: Seek forgiveness.

Think of that moment where you didn’t show yourself at your best. Pause to say sorry for it to yourself and to God. How could you show you are sorry to that person?

Step 5: Look Forward.

As you go on with your day, or prepare to sleep, you might like to make a resolution to repair with that person in the coming days.

We show our love for God through the love we show to others. When we build positive relationships with them, we build our relationship with God too.

We end by giving glory to God, who walks alongside us through our journey of life:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
