Today is Monday the 20 May, in the Fifth Week of Easter.

Salt of the Sound sing, ‘I Need Thee Every Hour’.

Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John.

The readings we’ll listen to this week, except for Thursday’s, are given in John’s gospel as words spoken by Jesus at the Last Supper.  His words, though, aren’t addressed only to the people gathered around that table, back then.   In the sixteenth century, Ignatius of Loyola, unaware of the generosity of God, and eaten up by the project of making himself perfect in God’s sight, was startled when an elderly woman said to him “May our Lord Jesus Christ appear to you one day!”  Taken aback, he asked himself “How might our Lord Jesus Christ appear to me?”

And today, here and now, I can ask myself the same question.  Where do I sense God’s action, Christ’s presence shaping my life?  How do I hope to be taught about and to learn to respond to Christ’s love for his followers?  How is my life a home from which God’s generosity and love spreads?

See if listening to the reading again stirs in you some sense of the presence of the Risen Christ in your life – something the Holy Spirit will remind you of.

In the few moments that remain, talk to God about what may have come to your mind.  Talk to God about the ways in which, in the coming day, you’ll hope to be at home with God and God will be at home with you in all you do and in all your dealings with those you meet.
