Today’s reading is from Psalm 25.

Psalm 25:4-9

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;

teach me your paths.

Lead me in your truth, and teach me,

for you are the God of my salvation;

for you I wait all day long.

Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,

for they have been from of old.

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;

according to your steadfast love remember me,

for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord;

therefore he instructs sinners in the way.

He leads the humble in what is right,

and teaches the humble his way.

Mon âme se repose

In today’s reading the Psalmist, David, writes of God’s leading, teaching, salvation and steadfast love.

Picture David sitting beside you now, just as a friend would, who understands both the ways of the Lord and the many difficulties of being human. What does he look like?

So, imagine that David encourages you to write a psalm today... Try not to think or analyse, keeping your words simple, let them flow from your heart...

What would your first line be?

In his psalm, David recalls that God is the God of mercy and steadfast love, so he cries out, ‘Do not remember the sins of my youth.’

Returning to your psalm now, which words do you choose to cry out to God today?

Which words might you use in gratitude to God for his mercy to you?

As you listen to the reading again, notice which line of David’s psalm most speaks to your heart.

Finally, which simple words do you choose to end your psalm?

You might feel like spending more time with your psalm, so maybe return to it later, adding some more lines as part of your prayer today.

You have given all to me

To you, Lord, I return it

Everything is Yours

Do with it what You will

Give me only Your love and Your grace

That is enough for me
