Become aware of your position, make yourself comfortable, and still yourself

Slow down your thoughts, create a clear space, slow down your breathing.

Become aware of God’s presence with you now, as we into this imaginative contemplation

We are on the banks by the river Jordan, the cool water is refreshing In the heat of the day, you can see Jesus and John the Baptist talking to one another, then John holds onto Jesus and lowers him into the water.

As Jesus comes up from the water you see a strange light and can hear a strange sound. Jesus then walked out onto the shore and leaves the river Jordan.

Then Jesus appeared:

Matthew 3:13-17

He came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptised by John.

John tried to dissuade him.

‘It is I who need baptism from you’ he said ‘and yet you come to me!’

But Jesus replied, ‘Leave it like this for the time being; it is fitting that we should, in this way do all that righteousness demands.’

At this, John gave in to him.

As soon as Jesus was baptised he came up from the water, and suddenly the heavens opened

and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove

and coming down on him.

And a voice spoke from heaven,

‘This is my Son, the Beloved, my favour rests on him.’

I wonder what you notice in the scene?

I wonder what John the Baptist does next?

I wonder if you want to follow Jesus as he leaves?

Let’s say the Lord’s prayer together:

Our father,

who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on Earth, as It Is, in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen .
