Today is Friday, the 15 November, in the Thirty Second Week of Ordinary Time.
The University of Johannesburg Choir sing a setting of Psalm 16 Protect me, O God for in you I take refuge.
Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Luke.
Today’s reading can be a bit disturbing because it raises questions of Judgment. The writer is quick to point out that Judgment is something which will happen and it will happen at a time when we least expect it. How does this make you feel?
What are the first things that come to mind when you hear the word ‘judgement’? Do you see it as something scary? Liberating? Or something else?
Although the idea of Judgment is, perhaps, not as intimidating as we imagined previously it is still a reality for which we must be prepared. As you listen again, pay particular attention to exactly what is said about Judgement.
Cardinal Basil Hume said that Judgement is like whispering your deepest secrets into the ear of the most loving, tolerant and understanding person imaginable. Spend the last few moments of this meditation in a conversation with God; God who is this most wonderful person – tolerant, loving and understanding. Remember that however we describe God, it doesn’t fully explain who God is. God is more loving, more understanding and more tolerant than we can possibly begin to imagine!
