Today is Friday the 14 June, in the Tenth Week of Ordinary Time.

The community of Taizé sing Une soif emplit notre âme. “Our soul is thirsting within us, to surrender all to you, O Christ.” As I sit or stand here now can I open myself up to God and surrender everything to his Son Jesus Christ?

Today’s reading is from the Second letter of St Paul to the Corinthians.

In what ways can I see myself as “treasure in clay jars”?

Even if I am not driven to despair or persecuted in my own life, how can I make the life of Jesus “visible in my body”?

God is working through me extending his grace to those I meet. Can I think of a time when I felt God working through me to reveal the treasure of my inner nature to the people in my life?

As I listen again to the reading, can I become aware of the Spirit of faith that God has given me?

Cardinal Newman believed and so he spoke: Therefore I will trust Him. Whatever, wherever I am. I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him; in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him; if I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. You may want to pray now with this same spirit of faith, about whatever is in your heart.
