Forgiveness

Matthew 18:21-22

Become aware of your position, make yourself comfortable, and still yourself

Slow down your thoughts, create a clear space, slow down your breathing.

Become aware of God’s presence with you now, as we enter into this imaginative contemplation

This is the city of Capernaum. It is a busy fishing village.

It is hot, the sun is shining down, but the water of the Sea of Galilee is cool

you can see Jesus and his followers gathered on the hillside.

Jesus is talking and listening, and his followers are listening.

You settle down behind the crowd to listen to Jesus

Then Peter went up to him and said,

‘Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? As often as seven times?

Jesus answered,

‘Not seven, I tell you, but seventy-seven times.’

I wonder what you notice about this place?

I wonder how you feel about the words of Jesus? You walk towards Jesus. What do you want to say?

I invite you to pray together, as we say:

Our father,

who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on Earth, as It Is, in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen
