Today is Friday the 31st of July, the feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, in the 17th week of Ordinary Time.

Today is an important day for us – St Ignatius of Loyola was the founder of the Jesuits, and the spirituality upon which Pray As You Go is built. We invite you to join in celebrating this feast day, especially as we continue to mark our 20th anniversary year. If you would like to consider supporting the work of Pray As You Go, today is a great day to celebrate with us!

As we enter into prayer, we will hear Hannah Boesen of The Porter’s Gate singing a version of the Suscipe prayer by St Ignatius: ‘You have given all to me, to you O Lord I return it. Everything I have is Yours, do with it what You will.’

Today’s reading is from Saint Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. Give no offence to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, so that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

Dear Gravity

St Ignatius of Loyola lived in such a way that everything was to be done “for the greater glory of God” and encouraged everyone to live as such. We can find this very much present in today’s reading. Paul is instructing those in Corinth to do all things “for the glory of God”, even in their eating and drinking practices. How would living for the glory of God play out in your life?

Paul speaks of “not seeking my own advantage”. This too reflects the life of St Ignatius. Can you say the same for your life? How easy or difficult do you find this?
