Rejoicing
We Dream of Eden
In this session, we will be praying with Psalm 33.
On this most holy night we celebrate that the presence of God who has become flesh for us in Christ Jesus. His is a presence that we can feel in our lives, just like a mother or a father, a sister or a brother, a companion or a friend. Let us spend a moment rejoicing in his nearness…
Over the season of Advent we have felt the yearning for God that lies beyond our longings. We have let God lift us up. We have ascended to the heights with God, and discovered the place where God dwells. But has it been us who have welcomed the presence of God into our lives, or has God been welcoming us into God’s life? Listen to the words of this psalm, and let them fill you with the reverent hope of Christmas…
Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just;
for praise is fitting for loyal hearts.
Give thanks to the Lord upon the harp,
with a ten-stringed lute sing him songs.
O sing him a song that is new,
play loudly, with all your skill.
For the word of the Lord is faithful
and all his works to be trusted.
The Lord loves justice and right
and fills the earth with his love.
By his word the heavens were made,
by the breath of his mouth all the stars.
He collects the waves of the ocean;
he stores up the depths of the sea.
The Lord looks on those who revere him,
on those who hope in his love,
to rescue their souls from death,
to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul is waiting for the Lord.
The Lord is our help and our shield.
In him do our hearts find joy.
We trust in his holy name.
May your love be upon us, O Lord,
as we place all our hope in you.
Take a few moments to give thanks to God for everything you have received over this Advent season. Can you recognise how you have become more sensitive to God’s presence in your life? Speak to God giving thanks for everything that you have learned and listen to what God wants to say in response…
As this season of Advent draws to a close, and we begin our celebration of the birth of Jesus, hear this blessing addressed to you, your family, your friends, and the whole of humanity: ‘May your love be upon us, O Lord, as we place all our hope in you’…
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
