Everyday Examen

We begin our Examen reflection to develop our character, help us achieve our goals, and if we choose, draw closer to God.

Separate yourself from distractions now and allow yourself to benefit from these next few minutes.

Step 1: We Prepare

We dedicate the next five minutes to examining our patterns of behaviour, so that we can recognise the path God is trying to take us down and the path that we truly want to go down in our lives.

Step 2: Look Back

What was the most striking thing happened in your day? The first thing that comes to your mind when you look back. Reflect on it now. What can you learn from that experience?

Step 3: Give Thanks

What was the best thing that happened today? Take a moment to thank God, or simply feel gratitude for it and allow the feeling of the memory to lift your mood.

Step 4: Say Sorry

What is one thing that you did today that you don’t think was so good, that you regret? You might want to say sorry to God for it. Consider how you can avoid doing it again.

Now you’ve done that, let the feeling of regret go and move on. Forgive yourself.

Step 5: Look Forward

What one thing do you want to achieve tomorrow, that will draw you closer to being the person you want to be? What do you need to do to achieve it? Ask God for the help you need with it.

Closing Reflection:

We end by giving glory to God, through whom all good things come:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
